Professional welds and machining. Originally a Belgian FN Bolt that was then logged into the South African Armed Forces with the designation ZA-#### for Zimbabwe or Rhodesia.
The top of the Bolt Carrier, where the original markings were, has been milled flat a tube was welded on. The "rat tail" was taken off, and the holes left were plugged. The bolt Carrier is very robust with full tight welds. Marked "(8)" inside by FN Herstal.
The Rhodesian Army converted a small number of FN, acquired FAL's into "Para" or Paratrooper rifles. The main conversion involves a folding or non-folding lightweight buttstock. Giving it that iconic look and allowing Paratroopers to fold or strip the rifle into a tighter package while jumping. The other main conversion involves rearranging the return spring, keeping all of the operation inside the rifle's receiver section as opposed to the normal rifle FAL variant, where the return tube is inside the buttstock and houses the return spring. The tail on the carrier interacts with the plunger and returns the carrier and bolt after every shot.
Awesome find and a great piece to complete an original or clone Rhodesian Para
