The M3 Grease Gun magazines were manufactured by SPW or Sparkes Withington Co. in  Jackson, Michigan, in 1943-1945. GL in the stamped markings signifies: Guide Lamp Division of General Motors.  Some time after WW2's end, in 1964, Gordon Ingram at Military Armament Corporation (MAC) designed the MAC-10/45 around the M3 grease gun magazine, in a cost-saving measure.
